Your Guide to Hunting Slingshots
Despite the many additions we have seen in the world thanks to technological advances, hunting weapons have very 
much remained consistent through the years. As well as many others, hunting slingshots have been stable for those who like to hunt and it looks as though it will stay this way for years to come. Why? In truth, there are some key benefits to using hunting slingshots;
- Firstly, most come in under one pound in weight which makes them extremely easy to carry around and use.
- Secondly, most of the designs seen are compact which means that they can be folded down and placed into a pocket or into one of the small pockets on a bag.
- After this, it should be noted that they are quiet and almost silent. When hunting, this is a huge benefit to have because it allows for sneaking and getting close to animals.
- Finally, there are always stones around which means that a slingshot can effectively have unlimited ammunition. With bows and other weapons, this can be a limiting factor.
Drawbacks – Before we head any further, there are also some drawbacks to the slingshot so let’s take a quick look at these too;
- If you prefer to hunt at a long range, this might not be possible with a simple slingshot.
- As they produce a lower kinetic energy than many other weapons, they have a much lower ability to kill.
- Also, you could note that they require quite a lot of practice to become accurate. Up close, this isn’t such a problem but medium-range does need a bit of practice in order to hit the target.
History of Design – Traditionally, the slingshot can be traced back to early man as they require no mechanism or technology whatsoever. At first, people would utilize just one piece of leather and a little string. With the stone in the 
middle, it would then whirl around the head and one half of the strap would be released.
Towards the middle of the 19th century, Charles Goodyear introduced rubber to the world and the basic slingshot design was enhanced. As we reached the end of this century, the pneumatic tire made an entrance and the inner tubes were the perfect advancement for this type of weapon. Nowadays, it is a formidable weapon that comes in handy due to its efficiency.
Summary – For hunters, the ultimate question is whether they should add a slingshot to their bag or not. Ultimately, it can be a handy addition and let’s face it, it isn’t going to take up much room. In survival situations, it keeps you small, quiet, and you can maneuver with great efficiency. Whilst it might not prove worthwhile if you plan to stay long-distance when hunting, it will be helpful considering the benefits we have been through.

Although this is a labour intensive process, it’s incredibly inexpensive and is great at protecting your dogs through tick and flea season. This method needs to be repeated more often, around every two weeks, as the ingredients aren’t as strong as spot on treatment.
