Shotgun Choke Tubes

One of the most useful tools for a shotgun is the choke tube, which alters a gun’s choke to change its pattern and range. Although simple in design, a choke tube turns an ordinary gun into a versatile instrument capable of performing in a variety of hunting and shooting scenarios.

Types of choke tubes available are:

Extra-full, also known as gobbler getters, which are great for headshots. This type of choke has extra-tight constrictions and densest patterns.

Full choke tubes have tight constriction and a dense pattern. This type of choke delivers 70% of a shell’s pellets within a 30’’ circle at 40 yards. Full choke tubes are recommended for trap, turkey, and waterfowl shooting, as well as buckshot loads.

Modified choke tubes have less constriction than full choke tubes and deliver 60% of a shell’s pellets in a 30’’ circle at 60 yards. Use this choke tube for waterfowl, upland birds, small game animals, and trap shooting.

Improved cylinder choke tubes are less constricted than modified tubes and deliver 50% of a shell’s pellets in a 30’’ circle at 40 yards. Use this choke tube for waterfowl close to decoys or close-quarter upland birds.

Cylinder choke tubes have no constriction and deliver 40% of a shell’s pellets in a 30’’ circle at 40 yards.

Skeet choke tubes deliver 50% of a shell’s pellets in a 30’’ circle at 25 yards and are ideal for close-range skeet shooting.

Specialty tubes are designed for certain types of shot, such as the steel shot required for waterfowl hunting.
